On 18th September 2017 Hurricane Maria hits Dominica for several hours. Expecting a hurricane categorie 3 the Dominicans got suprised by a much stronger one in categorie 5. First assumptions count 59.000 affected local residents, the total population counts 72.000 inhabitants. The death rate is not officially confirmed yet, but several people lost their life, got seriously injured, lost their roofs or homes and many are currently suffering from water scarcity and food shortage. Some of the Dominican villages are still not reachable, which keeps family members and friends worried. This Blog is an information platform for all interested and concerned ones who want to be informed about the tragedy. Unfortunately do small countries not always get the media attention they actually need in times of crises. All information arise from on-site experiences, online dokumentation and personal conversations with Dominicans. A donation account for emergency supplies and further reconstruction projects is in process and will be published as soon as it is operational.
